Academy Improvement Plan
A key part of our work to improve the student experience and academic results at Budmouth Academy is planning for continuous improvement in all aspects of our work.
Our Academy Improvement Plan sets challenging objectives for different areas that we are seeking to improve. The plan identifies the specific actions that will be required to achieve each objective and it also identifies what the impact would be if the objectives are achieved. The plan also considers key priorities that the Aspirations Academies Trust are seeking to develop.
Our Leadership Team monitor this plan on a half-termly basis and evaluate whether key actions are completed. At the end of the academic year, the plan will be reviewed for its overall impact. An important part of this is to review the final performance in relation to our key performance indicators. This review will help us set a relevant and challenging Academy Improvement Plan for the following year.
This process is replicated by our Subject Co-ordinators and Subject Leaders where they identify the more specific areas that are relevant to their subject and teams.
Our Academy Improvement Plan Objectives for this academic year are:
Quality of Education:
- Strengthen Curriculum and Assessment: Ensure curricula are coherently sequenced and aligned with assessment to maximise progress. Embed consistency in assessment across subjects and integrate applied learning and real-world contexts to enhance engagement.
- Improve Teaching, Learning and Literacy: Deliver high-quality, adaptive teaching for all learners, including the most able and those with SEND. Embed the whole-school literacy strategy and a consistent ‘know more, remember more’ approach to strengthen retention and retrieval of knowledge.
Behaviour & Attitudes
- Improve Attendance and Engagement: Raise attendance to at least national levels and reduce persistent absence, with a focus on disadvantaged and SEND students through targeted support and early intervention.
- Promote Positive Culture and Behaviour: Strengthen behaviour systems and reduce high-tariff sanctions for disadvantaged and SEND students. Embed our academy values to foster respect, excellence, and determination.
Leadership and Management
- Secure consistently high-quality education across all subjects: Strengthen middle leadership accountability and curriculum oversight to eliminate variability and ensure all pupils benefit from excellent teaching and learning.
- Invest in staff development and well-being to drive sustained improvement: Embed high-quality professional development, support aspiring leaders, and maintain effective workload and well-being strategies to retain and grow staff expertise.
Personal Development
- Increase Student Participation and Leadership: Broaden access to enrichment and leadership opportunities so all students develop confidence, take action, and contribute to academy life.
- Strengthen Personal Development and Careers: Embed an integrated PSHE and careers curriculum that builds knowledge, skills, and social awareness, preparing students to thrive in a diverse and inclusive society.
Sixth Form Provision
- Raise attainment and progress in the Sixth Form: Strengthen the quality of teaching through high-impact CPD, rigorous accountability, and forensic use of data to drive targeted improvement.
- Deliver a high-quality Sixth Form offer: Ensure the curriculum, enrichment, and support systems are ambitious, enriching, and add measurable value to student outcomes.
