Our Tutor Programme is at the heart of school life, providing every student with daily support, guidance, and encouragement. Each tutor group offers a sense of community where students build positive relationships, develop key skills, and receive tailored advice to help them thrive both academically and personally.

To complement our wider curriculum, we also offer a fortnightly rotation of activities designed to prepare students for the day ahead, broaden their experiences, and support their personal development. These sessions encourage confidence, teamwork, and resilience, helping every child feel known, valued, and supported throughout their school journey.

Daily Checks & Messages

To ensure students are ready to learn, tutors carry out quick daily checks of uniform and equipment during morning registration. If a student is missing an item, they can borrow it from the school stock cupboard and return it at the end of the day. This routine helps maintain high standards and ensures every student is fully prepared for their lessons.

Each Monday, the weekly message board is also shared with students. This includes key notices, upcoming events, and reminders to help them stay informed and organised for the week ahead.

Assemblies & Assembly Follow Up

Weekly assemblies are an important part of life at Budmouth. They are carefully planned around themes that reflect our academy and trust values, helping students see the real-world relevance of their learning and connect education to life beyond the classroom.

Assemblies take place in Clare Hall or, when needed, are delivered virtually. Each session is followed up in tutor time the next morning, giving students the chance to reflect, discuss, and embed the key messages. This approach ensures that assemblies are not just one-off events but meaningful opportunities to inspire, motivate, and support our students in their personal growth and development.

Building Brilliant Vocabulary

Once a fortnight students take part in ‘Building Brilliant Vocabulary’ by Kate Ashford. The aim is to bridge the ‘word gap’ across our academy by embedded tier 2 vocabulary. The resources include extended texts and provide opportunities for cross curricular links and discussion around Personal Development themes. It is designed to be accessible for all, but also to stretch the most able students.

Numeracy Ninjas

Once a fortnight, students take part in Numeracy Ninjas during tutor time – a short, focused activity designed to boost confidence and fluency in mental maths. Through quick-fire challenges covering strategies, times tables, and key skills, students strengthen their core numeracy in an engaging and age-appropriate way. This programme supports numeracy across the curriculum and helps every child build the skills they need to succeed in lessons and beyond.

Effective Revision

Every two weeks, students take part in a dedicated tutor session on effective revision strategies. These sessions help them build strong study habits and prepare confidently for assessments throughout the year. Ahead of exam periods, students also receive a Guide to Effective Revision to support independent study and reinforce the techniques introduced in tutor time.

Futures (Careers Information Advice and Guidance)

Each week, one tutor session focuses on Futures – our careers and employability programme. These sessions give students access to careers information, advice and guidance, while also developing key skills to prepare them for life beyond school. Through a structured programme tailored to each year group, students explore applied learning opportunities and reflect on their next steps, helping them make informed choices about their future.

Schools within School Competitions

Every two weeks, tutor time is used for School Competitions – fun, purposeful activities that build teamwork, school spirit, and a love of learning. These may include inter-tutor or inter-house challenges, activities linked to national awareness days, or involvement in whole-school campaigns. Competitions are designed to be engaging for all students and foster a strong sense of community.
