Year 7 Curriculum Model

At Budmouth Academy, we’ve developed an innovative Year 7 model that blends the very best of primary and secondary education. This approach provides a nurturing environment that supports a smooth and confident transition into secondary school.

By combining the familiarity and consistency of primary school with the opportunities and specialist teaching of secondary education, our Key Stage 3 model benefits both students and staff.

In Year 7, students are taught the majority of their core subjects—English, Humanities, Religious Studies, Personal Development, and Drop Everything and Read (DEAR)—by one dedicated teacher. They also have a second teacher who delivers both Maths and Science. This means that for over 70% of their weekly timetable, students are taught by just two teachers. This consistency helps our staff to build strong, trusting relationships with students and enables them to better understand and support each child’s learning and development.

For the remainder of the week, students enjoy lessons in PE, Technology, and Art with subject specialists, making full use of our excellent facilities and broadening their learning experience.

We understand that the move to secondary school is a big step—exciting for some and a little daunting for others. That’s why we’ve created a comprehensive and inclusive transition programme. It’s designed to support students and their families by providing clear information, guidance, and reassurance, helping everyone feel confident and well-prepared for this new chapter.
